After cashing our first free play with the Oklahoma City Thunder a few days ago, tonight we're taking a shot with the Miami Heat. After hosting the Super Bowl last night, the party continues in Miami tonight. The Miami Heat have one of the best home court advantages in the NBA and I fully expect that trend to continue tonight in front of what should be a packed AmericanAirlines Arena. This season the Heat are 15-8-1 ATS in front of the home crowd, whereas the 76ers are 8-17-1 ATS. With this line being so short it's also helpful to look into S/U records. The Miami Heat are 21-3 straight up on their home court and the 76ers are a surprising 9-17, which believe it or not is worse than some bottom feeder teams in the NBA such as the Kings and Timberwolves. The Heat are also an NBA best 30-17-1 ATS in the first quarter including 7-3 in their last 10 and a 15-9 ATS record in the first quarter at home. This continues in the first half ATS stats where they are 29-19 and 15-9 at home, leading by an average of 7.3 points per game at the half at home. The Sixers are 10-16 against the spread on the road in the first half. This is one of those spots where there are also external factors we need to take into account. With the Super Bowl in town the night before it's safe to say these guys had plenty of opportunity to have themselves a night. The Heat are used to the party scene around Miami and appear to be the much more mature team. It's no secret Joel Embiid loves being an NBA star, he loves the attention and he loves living a luxurious lifestyle. Think Joel and Ben had themselves a night last night? The Sixers have a lot of concerns right now and the Heat are the much more consistent team. I expect the Heat to want to prove they are sure contenders in the East this year and come out handling the 76ers from the start. Give me the Heat trifecta tonight.
